D7 loading problem
« on: September 16, 2005, 11:52:46 AM »
Hi - first post

My D7 died about 6 weeks ago and I haven't got round to having it repaired yet (I bought a Hi-MD recorder to get my by as I had a U2 show to tape).
Did a search as D7 + "error 04" and came up with nothing so apologies if this is an old recurring chestnut.

I found this on ebay which seems to have an identical problem.

In my part of the world, you have to pay for repair quotes - anyone have any ideas re.
1) what the problem is
2) if it is self-repairable

I have looked on the D7 resource page and associated links with no (useable) results.

Thanks

try www.prodigitalinc.com

Not sure if they charge for estimates but Paul can probably tell you what is wrong or likely wrong with a discription of the behavior.

When was the last time you had the deck cleaned and aligned?

Check the glide path roller. Look in the deck towards the left middle area. You'll see a line where a moving part can slide back & forth. The white glide path roller should be at the front (mouth) of the d7. If it is pushed back by the headsthat's the problem. & I bet it is. This is a common problem on D7 & 8's.

It needs to be glued back in place.

Kindguy thanks
Kim Jong also thanks - but I am denmark so prodigital is not an option.
Thank god for digital cameras. Here is a pic of the inside of the machine.

Have I outlined the right bit? And does it look as if that could be the problem?

Cheers

You can see where the roller slides up the metal part. You can even see the hole where it needs to be glued to in the pic. The glide path has a little stud that goes in that hole.

No?
I am in the netherlands and local service is more expensive than sending the deck in...

Wow thanks guys - I've just ordered a JB3 so now, if I pull this off,  I have the luxury of 3 rigs! Now that is just plain greedy.

But I am still a little baffled (or just plain thick) - the roller seems to be jammed fast, and I am worried about breaking something. I presume it has to be pushed forward into the niche (in which there is also a little spring), situated diagonally upwards and right of it(on the picture). If this is the spot, I can't see where and what I should glue.

BOUNCE - still unsure about the (helpful thanks) advice I have had so far. Still in need of clarification.

Just send it in, have it repaired and aligned and all will be cool.
