Title: battery box n00bie question...
Post by: endless_soul on April 05, 2008, 11:44:53 PM
battery box SP-SPSB8...
as i understand it this box contains a 9V battery. is this correct?
and if so can i just change the battery once it's ran out by removing the lead?

also how long can i expect it to last? will the use of phantom power from a microtrack / tascam dr-1 help out or is it better to avoid it?
thanks so much

The sp-spsb-8 takes a standard 9-volt battery:

As far as how often you should change the battery, I know there have been some threads on this topic, here are a few, suggesting that a standard 9-volt battery should last a few hundred hours, as it only consumes power when connected to the mic:

(In contrast, the mini-9volt batteries supposedly only last a maximum of 15 hours:  http://taperssection.com/index.php/topic,23562.msg296151.html#msg296151  ]

Personally, if I'm taping something important to me, I just use a new 9-volt battery each time, and I can use the used 9-volt batteries in my guitar pedals.

im using SPcmc8 cardioids.

sorry about the stupidity of the question, but will i be able to easily change the battery inside?
is it just a question of opening the lid and change the 9V battery?
for what i understand if i open the battery box the warranty is voided am i correct?

and thanks

Changing the battery simply requires removing a few screws or a slide cover. I was asking about the mics more for powering options. So since you already chose to power the mics from a battery box, you cannot use the phantom power from an M-Audio Microtrack.
