Title: How do I use the Lacrosse BC-900?
Post by: greppson on May 12, 2008, 08:56:03 PM
I feel slightly embarrassed asking this, but I just picked up one of these recently, but can't figure out how to work it. I've read the manual a couple times, but for some reason it just isn't clicking for me.

I'm trying to charge some 2500 mAh energizers.

I just picked one up a month ago and just plugged the charger in on whatever the factory default was and let all 4 batteries charge until the device reads "FULL."  I know you can change the settings so that you get a faster charge.

do a soft charge, they say its better for battery life--if you have the time

FIRST OFF, cycle them at LEAST 5-6 times before you use them. Trust me ;) Then you can use and abuse the hell out of them. Its also a good idea to cycle them 2-3 times each year thereafter. That charger is sweet. I used to own one too. It will cycle the batts until they are at their MAXIMUM capacity, so let it do its thing for a few days and cycle them as many times as needed. Otherwise, your batteries may never get to their maximum capacity and reach their full potential

So...

Just so I make sure I am doing this correctly...

There are 4 modes on the charger:
CHARGE
DISHCARGE
DISCHARGE/REFRESH
CHARGE/TEST

When you all say cycle through or do a soft charge, you mean do a discharge/charge or discharge/refresh, right?

And the different displays mean...
h = hours, how long the batts have been charging for in h:mm
mA = milliamps, ????
mAh = milliamp hours, ????
V = volts, ????

I'm not really sure what the values of the last 3 tell me in terms of the batteries. I just can't seem to make sense of those values. I am trying to charge some Energizer 2500 mAh batts.

Sorry, I just didn't find the manual very helpful.

Man, I feel like this all is a stupid question, but I am willing to submit myself to the humility!

Thanks all.
