Topic: MT II External Power

Hopefully, this is not a dupe thread.

I just wanted to show a pic of the external power I purchased at walmart for my MT II (~$9).  It is just a 4 AA sled with USB connection and an on/off switch.

I haven't used it in the field yet, but it seems okay in quick tests at home.  The MT II shows that it is being charged when the battery is plugged in.

The retractable cable that came with it only powers the MT II.  I cannot use it to transfer a file via USB.

EDIT:  ...and that USB cable that came with it fits very nicely next to the S/PDIF I bought from kindcables.com

Assuming that the MT2 is the same 5v as the MT1 there are multiple external solutions & more than one thread on this.

Right you are! 

I charged up the MT II and tossed it in to my bag without setting the the "hold" switch.  So, of course, the thing turned on and the batteries were drained when I got to the show.  I used this 4AA battery sled to power the MT II for two sets that were 50 mins each.  I used brand new Druacell batteries on each set, and at the end of each set the batteries were very warm to the touch and the battery tester showed them down to about half capacity.

I actually just ordered a Macally(the jbox(ip-481), not the jboxmini) from the Newegg link a few posts above for the MTII I ordered, I've heard good things on that one and Newegg has great prices(got a another 8gb transcend cf card for $50 at the same time).

Like others have said though..always fully charge the MT before use, whatever you use. Long term your far better off with a rechargable solution, I could have bought a few macally's for what I've spent on AA's, not to mention saving the environment .

Yes, the MTII was definitely charging.  How much?  I don't know.

Does anyone know how long this will power it for with the backlight on the whole time w/ phantom power off?

Not sure on total time, but with a fully charged MT, I don't think I ever saw it lose any of the three green level lights during a regular say 3-4 hour show. I did have it drain once because my MT was not fully charged though. Oh and I always leave the backlight on when doing this and I leave it turned on during setbreaks. I would never get through a show with just the internal, even with the backlight off ...

I use a duracell powerpack mobile 100 lithium battery which has both a regular outlet and 2 usb ports...... works great and has ran my rig for nearly 10 hours straight!!!

I agree. It the McAlly works like a charm. I can tape all night with the back light on bright and contrast on 10 and have never come close to draining the thing.

I finally broke down and picked up two mcally's from newegg for festival season.  I haven't used them on the MT II yet, but I have on a phone & iPod, and I'm impressed with them so far.

Can a standard white Apple iPod AC wall wart with the USB output be used to charge the McAlly in lieu of my PC USB port?  I don't know why it couldn't, but thought I should double check with the brain trust...

Do you guys think that you could power an MT2 out of the USB and a v3 out of the socket output on this at the same time?  Any idea of runtime that you'd get doing this with phantom power on?
