Gonna be running my news mics on Friday night. I've got both the 91 and 93 caps. I have always run cards at the venue I am going to. On these mics: old mics. (http://audio-technica.com/prodpro/profiles/ES943_C.html) Should I run the 91 caps or move to the 93s?
Room holds 200-300 maybe. Square except for left wall is missing so people in the bar can watch also. Normally setup dead center, 35-40' back which is basically the back of the room.

have you been happy with your previous tapes? if so then cards
however I think most people prefer to run hypers in small bars, cuts down on some of the room reflections and general bar noise. unless the place sounds really good I prefer hypers inside.
how wide is this place?
-
Been happy with my tapes before but I also have never run hypers since I have never had them before. Room is maybe 20' wide.

try the hypers out, you might be suprised and it can't hurt to try. I bet you'll like them.
-
FWIW, when I had my 390's I usually ran the 93's when at a bar/club. The only time I got really good results w/ the 91's in a bar/club was using them X-Y; when used ORTF or DIN in clubs they sounded really boomy.

+Thanks for the help guys.

the hypers for those mics absolutely rock indoors. The only times I would run cards is when I was in REALLY great sounding clubs, with a small audience, or outside...otherwise hypers were the choice for me.
-
Any tips on config? I normally run DIN.
-Kevin
-
DIN, but close the distance for the hypers 17cm
-
Cool. How does XY normally sound?
-Kevin
-
I dont like XY too much with those mics...not much imaging. Give it a shot though...we all hear things a bit differently...
-
I ran x/y forever with the bluelines, then I found out about DIN... never looked back!
-
DIN it is then! Thanks guys.

din here also...only occasionally x/y...
if you got both caps...start with the cards, and switch to hypers for the second set...or cards for opener, hypers for headliner
then compare...and let your ears be the judge
have a grateful day

Definately want to do that when I get the chance. Maybe Sunday @ Garaj Mahaj but tointe I am only going for the opener anyway.

I run 393's DIN indoors.
I only use the 91's on-stage or outdoors and always ORTF.
Just my preference......
-
What's a DIN configuration? I know what XY and ORTF are.
-
Think XY but caps ~17cm apart and the vertex of the angle is at the base of the microphones, not at the capsules.
-
Holy shit. Don't have enough time to post a full review of these mics but damn...I love em'!
-Kevin
-
sweet!
I love mine!

I have 300's with 91 caps and 93 caps, my experience has been use the 91 caps outdoors and in better indoor acoustic environments, use the 93 caps for everything else, I also suggest the ORTF mic configuration for livlier recordings, the XY will give a sterile sounding recording
-
I don't think that the 391's are bright enough to run ORTF... try DIN instead
-
I've gotten to run these twice now. Two different clubs. Ran DIN first night. Clarity is nice and sound is full. Second night I run XY. Lost a little clarity and its a bit boomier but not horribly. Definately think DIN is the way to run. Oh yeah, I was running hypers.

You should try XY with my pmod sometime - might take care of the boomy sound.
Swap for String Cheese?

Wonder is they are doing 2 sets?

Hmmmm...
