Anyone running split Omni's on a single t-bar??
« on: September 16, 2004, 12:04:58 PM »
Just thinking about getting together a t-bar setup to run split omni's from a single stand.  Any advice??  Thinking about like 2ft apart??

Thinkin about that too, but it seems a bit high-profile though.  I guess it depends on how big the disk has to be.  Can it be like 6-10in diameter??

They'd be all small D mics; C4's or Nak300.  Maybe I'll just give a small disk a whirl and see...  Thnx.

Other option is to just point the mics almost sideways (say 120+ degrees) and extend 'em as far out as they can go in the mounts.  Key is to put as much space as you can between the capsules using what you have to work with.  Ran nak 300/cp2 this way for a grisman show and it really came out sounding nice.

Scooter-

I would definitely check out the link that Moke posted.  I found that after fumbling through making my own disc.  It would have been a helluva lot easier to do it like link.  Finished mine last night.  Looking forward to trying it out at ACL Fest this weekend with the SP C4's.

Ya, looks pretty straight-ahead.  I checked it out and will prolly do one up soon.  Should be a good project.  Just gotta figure out how to mount it with my akg bar.

I'd like to hear it if it comes out well.

I ran my Oktava omni's Healy and did not really like the results (have to try again though) but I've gotten good results with a 2ft boom arm and a clamp for the non threaded end of the boom arm.

why never run a Jecklin disc?
I have only tried it once and liked the results
as far as split omni's ... never tried them on 1 stand
I used to hang my omni's from the ceiling just inside the mains
when I always taped some friends in a local band
but that would be hard to do for most bands
unless you could arrange it with them and/or the venue

I think he was saying that HE'S never run a j-disc... not that no one should...

No, I've made it my personal quest to stamp out the use of Jenklin Discs.  ;D

I guess I need some time in Jeff-O's english class. On the re-read I should have said "I've never used a"

if I can't clamp to another stand, i'll use a regular K&M tbar

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=232846&is=REG

and two of these

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=232845&is=REG

and remove one screw from both bars and screw them on the the tbar.

i can get right at 30 inches (this includes the added length of the shock mounts for the TL's.)

i've been super pleased.  you could get a couple sets of these and keep going out.

but it may be more cost effective to get a boom clamp.
