AT Micro ORTF Bar Ideas ?
« on: September 24, 2004, 04:57:20 PM »
I'm putting together an ORTF Bar for my AT943ESs and am looking for construction ideas.

Coat hanger wire seems cheap and dirty, but vibrates.
Adjustability isn't desired, as the mics are fixed size, etc.
Considered wood dowel, but it, too is resonant, and breakable in packing.

Does anyone have welding rod experience ? Is it a good material ?
How about aluminum tubing ? Old aluminum arrow shafts ?
Any clever ideas, like using the crank from the spare tire jack ?

What about making clamps ?
I have the AT clamps, but wanted to keep them in reserve for stealthing.

Any and all ideas appreciated.

the wood dowel would work...
I’ve had a few weird experiences and a few close brushes with total weirdness of one sort or another, but nothing that’s really freaked me out or made me feel too awful about it. - Jerry Garcia

you may want to run the AT mics in a DIN config before you start building something custom. i never liked the ORTF config sound with my AT853s.

I was daydreaming the other day about a Kwon-type DIN Bar for the 853's...

Painfully simple, I almost feel dumb for asking, but now I'm glad to not reinvent the wheel.

Where's you get the ABS stock ? Did you heat cut it or hacksaw it ?  (I bet that's in the old thread, if I wasn't so lazy)

On the ends, did you raise the mics off the bar with a layer of ABS or are they elastic-corded to the bar through two holes and in contact or just hanging forward off of it ?  The legs are foam-taped to the bar ? Are they vertical with respect to the horizontal of the bar ?
Or are those clips on the ends ?

Remember agin' eyes...

Ah, final question......on the Bogen 3733, how do you get a 3/8 thread on the end ?
Mine has this large lighthead pin for the clamping.  Does it thread off ? Seems mighty tight
