Looks like the brass disc part (that contacts the bottom of the clamped surface) of my 649 clamp tore off at the last show. Anyone have any ideas on how to repair it? It seems like it was held on by a cheap rivet, which is another story on a $70 clamp... :angry3: Also Manfrotto USA said they cannot repair it.

The only thing I can think of is a brass or stainless disk with a hole in the middle that matches the diameter of the screw top. Also, the disk needs to be able to freely spin. I don't have a shop though, so that compounds the issue.

Improvise a piece you have to manually put in place each time? Maybe the only option. A rubber puck with a metal cup would be ideal.

I have this clamp, though haven't used it in a while so I'm going off of memory here, but why does your proposed disk need to be able to freely spin? I recall placing one of those round adhesive rubber disks on mine to soften the impact on the underside of whatever I'm clamping to. In your situation, would it work to drill the bottom out of a rubber stopper and epoxy it over top of the part that's protruding from the threads?

Random rubber knob from some busted appliance might fit. I think there's a thread about replacing that thing on a different clamp, and someone found the perfect part...
Ah, it's an air cap for a tire.
I found a great replacement for the screw top of a Windtech MPC clamp.The soft cap on top of a 4 foot driveway/plow marker. Those orange or yellow hi-vis, thin staffs, probably near the mailbox numbers in your local Lowes/Home Depot.
First few uses, they work great.After about 5, the screw wears through the tip.Derp.
The screw on cap for air valve stems for auto tires works for me.

I was trying to replace it with a like part...I was able to find some used ones (they never come up for sale used) so the broken one has been relegated to the parts bin. Thanks all
