Title: connecting an ext amp to home theatre

i am trying to hook up an external seperate amp (niles) to my existing stereo receiver (yamaha). i can get sound via 1 pr of rca's from tape out of yamaha to main in on niles, but i have no control over the volume w/ said receiver.  ??? any help is appreciated. thanks, d.

you need a receiver with a pre-amp out to do what you want to do, i believe.  then the volume is controlled by the pre-amp stage of the integrated receiver as if you were running separates.

thats what i thought. does radio shack have anything that could maybe do what i want?

you can try a speaker leve > line level converter if you have a 2nd set of speaker taps on your receiver.  basically these gadgets incorporate a step-down transformer to bring the levels down to line levels.
