Reputable places to buy used glass?
« on: April 06, 2010, 11:34:21 AM »
I am familiar with three places (B&H, Adorama, and KEH) to buy used glass.  Any others out there that I can trust?

Years ago (film SLR days) I bought a couple of lenses from Calumet Photo.  http://www.calumetphoto.com/
They also have an ebay store which might be worth checking - http://myworld.ebay.com/calumetphoto/  though it appears they don't have many lenses listed at the moment.

I've also had good luck on Fred Miranda and another message board called Open Source Photo.  Several of the lens rental shops also sell used glass, it might not be pristine on the exterior but they are reputable businesses and might have some deals.

Jake: What's this?
Elwood: What?
Jake: This car. This stupid car. Where's the Cadillac? The Caddy? Where's the Caddy?
Elwood: The what?
Jake: The Cadillac we used to have. The Blues Mobile!
Elwood: I traded it.
Jake: You traded the Blues Mobile for this?
Elwood: No. For a microphone.
Jake: A microphone? Okay I can see that.

Nikonians.org is a good place for Nikon glass.  I have purchased from several longtime forum members with excellent success.  But "traders" are beginning to creep in...so when you see brand new equipment offered, you can beware.
