Clear bags for gear
« on: June 17, 2021, 09:08:44 AM »
I’m pretty sure this was discussed pre pandemic but has anyone found the perfect clear bag? Looks like Live Nation venues will be enforcing this. It’s all over their venue specific websites. At least the ones I frequent.

It’s definitely going to be venue specific. Venues that are familiar with tapers will probably look the other way. I just want to be prepared. All it will take is one irate attendee (most likely a lawyer) bitching about tapers having non clear bags and it’s done. Won’t be everywhere, but it’ll happen. Thanks.

I have a selection of clear bags from small to extra large depending on venue.  There is a SF free festival that requires clear bags replacing coolers.  I have a clear roller bag and fill it with ice for a cooler.  It is covered my a blanket in the show.  On the handles I have two more clear backpacks.  For stadiums and Live Nation venues I have the NFL approved ones.

I've been able so far to get my gear in with my orca audio bag . it has a clear top and i usually point out that its easier to inspect a few zipper compartments and we're ok. I hate to think about having some bag failure and my 833 hitting the cement . But i guess that i'll run into some power trip security goon eventually . I can see a market for a audio bag that is clear but robust  like my orca bag

It looks like the casinos around here, CT, have taken the pandemic to eliminate *all* bags.   I can probably get by with my jean pockets, but I'd sure feel happier with a little tiny sidepack/travel wallet/running wallet/wristlet that I can tie around my stomach, under my shirt, once I'm setup.  I'm browsing through travel stuff looking for ideas.  It's going to have to be very small, with zero bulk.  I suppose now we will also have to sneak in these little wristlets, so something with a belt loop that can be completely crunched up and secured during entry would be great.

After this, I'm not sure what else they can do to us!  I suppose walking in completely naked, free of clothing, is the next logical step!

To add "real world" experience. SPAC told us clear bags were recommended, but for us tapers he cleared us, especially regular gear bags with clear tops. That said, on night one, only kindms bag was zero see thru. BY the next day, he was using my 12 x 12 x6 clear bag I cited upthread. (come to think of it, we actually did not show them the tapers tickets, which we all had.) airbladder and andyjah  had a backpack style one which seems better as it has an outside pocket and water holder.

All in all, at SPAC, I got the feeling they would waive the rules for tapers, as that is how the head of security phrased it when he spoke with us.

To add to rsc. i had a shirt over the top of my normal bag and they didnt say anything night 1. i switched to the clear 1) to see how it would all fit and 2) thinking if the usher being a pain might make issues

i will say this. the clear bags certainly seemed to garner a lot less attention from security if thats your thing. night 3 they just told us to walk everything through the metal detectors and didnt check us at all.

How are folks dealing with getting in stands/poles, etc? Obviously this would not fit in a clear bag. I have all that stuff in a lawn chair bag. Do you just carry it in without a bag? I am going to Xfinity Theater in Hartford and want to avoid issues at the door.

I would either have the stand/pole in a chair bag OR just carry it in your hand. Hand carry is what we did for SPAC and I assume what kindms did for Westville.
