Toslink > Mini Adapter Question
« on: December 27, 2004, 11:41:38 AM »
Hey guys, I have an RCA optical cable that is pretty high quality and it came with two toslink to mini adapters. The adapters though are really shite quality. The ends are gold or brass and fit into the plastic housing.. after only a few uses on both supplied adapters the plastic housing on the shaft part that holds the gold tip cracked and now the ends are always getting pulled out and stuck in my JB3 when I remove the cable. I want to keep using the RCA cable as it was fairly expensive and it's pretty rugged and good quality. I was looking at some of the mini adapters available online through sound professionals... It would be nice to have a Right angle adapter but the one there, judging by the picture seems to have a gold peice on the end. I'm worried that I would encounter the same problem. What I'm looking for is an adapter that's all one solid peice of plastic. Has anyone had experience with the adapters available at Sound Professionals and could maybe make a recommendation? Thanks...

Well, as far as I know, Radio Shack has discontinued their mini adapters and it's been a long time since I've been able to find them in store anywhere in Canada without having to buy them packaged with a new cable, which I don't need.

I'm using a toslink > mini right angle adapter from SP with 100% success rate so far. Sorry, I don't know the part #.

Sorry to thread jack, but has anyone ever used RS's toslink > toslink right angle adaptor? I just got one so I can run my UA-5 vertically... Do they work okay?

Ok, probably the adapters that came packaged with the RCA cable are crap quality. I'm gonna take a gamble on the SP mini right angle adapter. I imagine they have some form of warranty for these things anyways.
