smART DI/O help
« on: February 10, 2006, 12:15:55 AM »
Bought this about a month ago and wanted to use it. I also bought a M-Audio Delta Audiophile 24/96 Soundcard. I haven't been able to figure out how to get sound to work. First I figured that I would try s/pdif in, then rca out to mini to speakers/headphones. Tried all three settings for sample rate and got a humming sound. I also tried it with 1/4 in and rca out to mini to speakers, and it didn't work. No buzzing noise this time, just didn't work. Any suggestions? I haven't tried any amps, and I am not sure if I have one to test out (my dad might, but then I need to hook up everything  ::)). Also, what is the best sample rate to leave it at? I am guessing int/ext since the M-Audio is automatically doing it. Let me know.

you cant run headphones off of it.  its not an amp.  you need to run the analog out into some sort of stereo, be it a reciever, integrated amp, or seperate preamp/power amp.
as for sample rate, set it to whatever you are playing back.  44.1 for CDs

Oh ok. I thought I read somewhere on here that someone used it as a headphone amp. Thanks for the help. +T.

I ran my headphones directly out of a smART DI/O via 2 x RCA male | stereo mini female adapter.  It wasn't ideal, but it worked.

As for your problem, confirm your soundcard is outputting a digi signal by running it digi-in to a recorder and see if it records properly.  If it works, at least that'll help narrow down the problem.

Ok I just tried it. I get no signal at all. Wonder if it is the 7 pin connector with all of the midi/s/pdif in/outs. Can't be the whole sound card because I use the rca outs to my Dell spearkers and I am having no problem. Might have to contact M-Audio. Thanks again Brian.

Ok spent a good hour with tech support for M-Audio. Finally figured it. Figured out that you are not supposed to have any off the lights on for the smART and also supposed to have the output for all devices to be s/pdif out. Thanks again Brian. +T

Just sold my unit and wanted to help macdaddy with the problem that I occured. It doesn't output 24/96. For me, it worked for a few seconds then craped out. Any ideas on how to make it work?
