Sleep when closing lid on macbook

How can one avoid the macbook going into sleep mode when closing the lid (this turns off the network connections and if anything is running, it will stop)... so far, this is the only downside to the mac thus far.

Not sure if this will work but you could try it...
System Preferences (in your Applications folder)>
Energy Saver>
Sleep tab...
then just push the button all the way to never

Like I said I'm not sure if this will work cause I have a mini and I've never had to solve that problem.

I don't think that works. There's a program called insomniacX which overides the sleep function but it doesn't work for intel based macs running os x 10.4.8... bummer...
