Title: adapter question
Post by: DaryanLenz on December 30, 2003, 07:42:30 PM
Two quickie's...

Do they make an adapter to adapt straight angle xlr's to rt angle?

And further, if so, would there be signal degradation if using said adapater when using HQ silver cables?

I ask because I want to adapt the zaolla's to rt angle, but really don't want to just rid myself of the connectors.  Clearly I could unsolder them and do it myself, but I am not such a fan of this idea either since they are 200 dollar cables.  Any thoughts or ideas fellas and females?

why not just build them yourself, make a really small pigtail type connector about 1' long, just use good starquad and you should be fine

that wouldnt defeat the purpose of the higher end silver cables?

i dont think so if you were using a canare starquad silver, i think youd be fine.

are people normally using the starquad silver when making cables these days? or just normal starquad cable?

D - you should be able to look up whether they're silver or not by using the product code on the cable proper.  Just go look it up at Canare.

As for the adapters, I've never seen 'em, but I bet they're unwieldy as hell, big honkers.  Shoot, the 1/4" right-angle adapters are unwieldy, IMO, and don't help much in cutting down form factor, so I imagine the XLR right-angle adapters would be even worse.

thats why i suggested making a pigtail style, i figure that would be much better than just that straight on soldering style.  i assume the idea is to take down the front to back size of the unit

Duh.  Good call, Jonny, I missed that post somehow.

Yeah, the idea would be to cut down on the size at the bottom of the bag, hence the rt angles.  Running the two apogee units is a real pain without rt angles imho.

I will look into the cables and pigtail idea,

Jonny, I am absolutely LOVING these swans BTW...I can paypal you that money today if you pm me your address.  I looked at the canare site, and it doesn't show that they use silver anywhere at least as far as I could tell.  Do you have a link to canare silver?

No. Unfortunately Jonny, Canare does not make a silver cable.

I ordered some pure silver braid in hopes of pulling off these rt angle mods off.  I also oredered some pure silver solder, all for less than 60 bucks, and I should have some left over!
