Title: AT 853 XR mic preamp recommendations?
Post by: dgodwin on May 02, 2007, 07:04:03 PM
A friend just got a new pair of mics.  He got the AT's are 853 XR's(they are hanging mics with a body and have 25' XLR cables.)  What's the reasonable reccomendation for a preamp around $300?  I suggested a mixpre/mp2/fp24   Any others?  He'll be running AT -> preamp -> MD

One of Church's pres would do well, for well within that budget.

Edit: whoops, forgot the RXs have the phantom modules hard-wired.

And with the UA-5, couldn't you go optical-in to the MD?  Avoid the MD A/D, and just worry about setting levels at one spot instead of two . . .

AT853RX > Denecke PS-2 > Denecke AD20

Made sick recordings with this setup.   You can get the Denecke combo for $300 or less.  :coolguy:
