Newbie Taping Questions
« on: May 30, 2004, 01:51:57 PM »
OK, I have a matched pair of ADK TL's arriving on 6/2, a D-8 and a 7-pin.  I'm considering purchasing a V2 and a cheap A/D, or a UA-5, but I'm also open to any other pre suggestions.  I'm wanting to tape several smaller shows in the next two weeks, and then I will be taping Bonnaroo.  What will I need to mount the TL's to a stand?  What size/model stand would y'all recommend getting?  I'm sure I'm still leaving some things out, but any help that you can give me is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
  Will

I have found the KM 235 to do X/Y with the TLs, greater t-bar then I expected

for the money it seems that a modded ua-5 will give you the pre/adc combo you need in one easy package.
a v2 is nothing to shake a stick at however and there are several adc options for you.  graham-patton adc-20, sony sbm-1, apogee ad-1000, benchmark ad2k+ to name a few.  those are also listed in order of price from lowest to highest (used prices).  keep in mind though if you go v2 > (choice of adc) you'll be spending at least twice what you'd pay for the ua-5.  the drawback of the ua-5 is the lack of level meters and pretty blinking lights, but your d8 will show you levels.

V2/V3 compliments the TL's nicely. Just taped a whole bunch this weekend using the V3 with the TL's, liking this combo a lot. A modsbm-1 with the v2 I bet would sound nice.

For the money one of the moded ua-5's would be a good place to start.

mp-2 would be a good choice also....bet mp-2 with a modsbm-1 would sound nice with the TL's also.
