Appropriate time length for a patch from another source?
« on: November 12, 2006, 03:15:08 PM »
I had some problems last week in the second set of Umphrey's and lost about 25 minutes. JB3 froze up after about 11 minutes and I didn't realize it until later. I fired reset it and got the remainder of the set. Do I post this show with another source patched in for the missing time? The other source is already on archive so do I bother? The other source was 481>V3>MT, I was running 391>bm2p+mod UA-5>JB3. Curious on others thoughts about this situation.

I would patch it up with the other source and only seed the complete show.

me too, no use it spreading an incomplete source especially when one is already circulating completely

That's what I was thinking of doing. It wasn't my plan to seed an incomplete. 25 minutes or so of another source seemed a little far fetched though also to me.

I had a similar situation with this summer's DMB show in Tampa.  I was one of several tapers there, but it seems my tape is one of only two that made it out of the night.  Of course, my JB3 shut down during the song before the encore break.  The other taper (bluntforcetrauma here on TS) was running his mics in hat, 7th row (I was 9' up, back from the stacks)... so mine had less crowd noise.  I spliced in roughly 2.5 songs from his source, and torrented that.

I'd patch it for my own use.  And if you want to seed it, go for it - just make sure to note the patch, so people know what to expect:  how much is patched, with what source, etc.

Guess I'm in the minority.  I wouldn't patch it at all.  Seed it as is.  Besides, there's already a complete source circulating.  So what if it's incomplete?  If people want to patch it themselves then they can download both sources and do it themselves.

I've never been a big believer in patching a source just for the sake of completeness.  Screw it.  It is what it is.

That's crazy to me.  Kinda seems like pissing in the pool to me to seed an incomplete source if a complete source is already seeded.
IMO.  Only if you think your source sounds better than Phil's would I spend the time trying to splice it.

Agreed also. Plus if I was going to patch another tapers show I would ask permission first. Just my thoughts and I used to think incomplete shows sucked until I head some of the ol' Dead shows that came out. Mind blowin' stuff.
