Great Master Bus Compressor!
« on: January 11, 2011, 01:36:12 PM »
Hi folks.

I wasn't asked to do this - I'm just a very satisfied customer.

I've been looking for a master bus compressor for quite some time now, something that seems to magically glue the elements of a mix together, like the venerable SSL 4000.
I'm so glad I found out about "The Glue" available from www.cytomic.com

I almost dropped serious $$$ on the Waves SSL collection, but came across a favorable review of this small up-start, thanks to a review in Sound on Sound.

Since this review, the author has improved the linear-phase oversampling, with different settings for online processing and offline rendering.

As a mastering guy, I cringe when people submit mixes to me that are heavily compressed, but just a little of this compressor really does great things.  Check out it's "range" control, which is similar in some ways to that old parallel compression trick, only more nuanced.

The Glue and Brainworx's M/S limiter (BXXL) are my new favorite tools!

Hey.. thanks for that. I will give it a try.

On Brad Blackwood's forum this FabFilter Pro Limiter is getting favorable comments. I tried it out and I like it so far.

It would be great to hear before/after samples using the glue. Any chance you could share something with us?
thanks!

I use the Glue plug in all the time.  I love that it has a wet/dry control built into it, it's nice to do some quick "parallel" comping without setting up another bus, etc. Definitely a great sounding, versatile comp.

It ain't got nothing on the SSL 4000 though. I WILL own a hardware version of that in my lifetime.
