Burning DVD-A for playback on a DVD-A player...
« on: December 14, 2004, 02:22:01 PM »
I am about to purchase a DVD burner for burning DVD-A discs that will play in my DVD-A player. What should I look for as far as the actual burner and the software goes? Will any DVD burner work as long as it's sent through the correct software? I know of Diskwelder Bronze, but I hear it's a pain to use. What other software is out there? Any help would be most appreciated...

Bronze is very easy - just drag and drop.  It lacks any flashy menu features, and you can only do one "chapter" (can't put two shows on the same DVDA on different chapter headings).

Wave Lab 5 definitely gives you more features, and is only slightly complicated.  Once you go through the process a few times its no big deal.

What Wavelab model? I know 5.0 will do it, but it sure is a bit pricey! Also, will any DVD burner work ok?

I just burned my first DVD-A w/ wavelab 5 also. If it hadn't of been for the notes in the archive I'd still be trying to figure it out.Brad, as far as I know, any DVD burner should work but I'd go for the dual layer now that they're out.

If you are willing to limit your sample rates to 96k and 48k lpcm, you can use Audio-DVD creater for $40 to burn DVDV audio discs.  Much good reviews/discussion in other threads.  For straight 48k or 96k 2ch audio, you don't really need DVDA authoring capability.

Anyone used WaveLab 5.01a to burn a dual layer dvd yet?

I just searched the wavelab forums and couldn't find anything.

The Plextors are super btw with WaveLab.  The 716 dual layer burner is out and I am drooling.  I have a 712, and it produces some very fine burns playable across any number of readers.

As always, ymmv

i've had mine for a little over a year.  and i'm a 2x burner myself.  my drive will support 4x, but i don't trust it.  seems my dvds have less problems at the slower speed.

if you have a dvd burner, i wouldn't upgrade to the dual layered ones, just doesn't seem worth considering hd dvd is on the horizon along with hd dvd dual layers coming out soon too.

Because nothing says "I have lots of money and am sort of confused as to how to spend it" like Bose.
