Title: Zoom H4n battery life in 4-track mode?
Post by: (Evan) on January 01, 2011, 11:56:38 PM
Can anyone tell me what the battery life is like in 4-track mode when using two external condensers plugged into the XLR jacks, plus two mini condensers plugged into the 1/8" input on the H4n? Thanks

I can get something like 1 hour and 30 minutes with plain recharge AA's...  test it several times, used a Shure VP88 Ms stereo with 48v engaged and a Church audio binaurals on the the 1/8 in... or I get a lower live, about an 1 hour and 10 minutes with a pair of AKG blue line MS setup, in this case i have plugin power on, 48V on, and the MS matrix on...

Approx 2 hours if using Phantom power, more if not. Lithium 8x batteries will go 6 hours + BUT beware that when the meter on the Zoom drops from FULL to 2 BARS you are minutes from SUDDEN DEATH so log your time usage or invest in a meter tuned for Litiums.

For what you want (4 tracks at once) The Zoom H4n will do what you want AND has great battery life.

Two hours isn't really great battery life, in my opinion...
