help! some advice on my recording?

hi everyone, new here.

the last 2 shows ive taped have come out
somewhat distorted.
i run akg c1000's into a D7.
during the banter and all,
it sounds fine...otherwise its
kinda crackly...ive taped some
other shows with the same setup
that have come out fine.

taping a show tomorrow, any advice
on levels, or whatever, would be greatly
appreciated!

where do you set the knob on the d7? at what number?

usually i just set it til its even in the middle

i dont know that means, can you be more specific?

the knob is in the middle? are there not numbers on it? i have a d8 and it has numbers, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, does your d7 not?

are you going line in or mic in?

what levels are you seeing on your d7?

i just turn the volume up til
levels are even in the middle
on the screen, but usually the volume
knob is like at 6.

have you tried using fresh new batteries in the c1000s? they take 9v's, yes?

Genesis, U sure you're not talking about your DAT?

Also the c1000s will run on the same 9v for several shows.

From memory a regular 9v will run the c1000s for 110 hours

totally, no need to change batteries that often, on 1 9v at about 2ma they will last about 50 hrs i beleive cause i run 2 9v's at 2ma, and its sopposed to run for 100 hrs.
AKG 391's > phantom boxes > JB3 or Casio DA-7
Panasonic WM1610 omni's > whatever

Playback: Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum > Onkyo TSDX595 > matched Oynix Rockets > Mirage FRX-S8 sub

Good to hear..... If you need a little more gain running line in pick up some transformers. Theirs some over in the yard sale right now that would be perfect for your setup. Hosa mit-176 with rca out.

I know because I used to run your setup & those transformers were the ones I ran with it. They made a world of diff.
