Weird Clipping/Spiking Levels - Loss Of Signal
« on: August 25, 2019, 01:11:39 PM »
TS,

I went to JRAD last weekend at the Greek Theater in LA. I had just grabbed a Mini MP from the YS so I wanted to give it a spin. I ran 4011's > Mini MP > MixPre3 (line IN) @24/48. During the 1st set things started off nicely, and at the first interval I checked levels and noticed something was up. There was not much i could do at the point, but I checked my connections and it all looked good.

When you look at the wav file it looks like spikes and then loss of signal and then it comes back??? Really weird and I've never seen anything like this before.

I have tried to recreate the signal loss by setting up the rig and recording music in the house and its clean.

I'm going to Govt Mule in LA tonight and I'm running the same setup again. I'm doing JRAD & Phish a week from now so I'm trying to nail down what happened and what needs to be changed.

Would anyone be interested in taking a look at the file? Please PM your email and I'll get shoot you a dropbox link to the first set.

Thanks for your help!

Based on you description, I would first suspect a loose connection/defective cable(s). Is it both channels? One worse than the other?

sounds like a defective connection or wire where single wire is carrying both channels.
