Title: AT831 mini's with UA-5 pmod?
Post by: Chanher on December 08, 2003, 12:55:48 PM
Is it possible to use the AT831 mini-condensers (with a SP Batt Box) and the pmod UA-5?

Yes.  Just make sure you keep the phantom power OFF.  Then you'll need to convert your mini-stereo plug to XLR so you can input to the pmod-UA5s preamps.

Don't know your situation, but if you're planning on buying a pmod-UA5, you may consider spending that money on upgrading mics, instead.  In general, you get more bang for your buck with respect to sound improvements by upgrading mics vs. pre/ADC.

i actually think the at831's sound better than some of the more expensive lower end mics some people are using (oktava or c1000's).  i've taped a lot of shows and listened to a lot of shows recorded w/ these mics and they sound pretty damn good!  i've never ran my at933 (similar to the at831) w/ my pmod, but i bet it would sound pretty good together.

peace,
