Title: Littlebox Power Question
Post by: chinariderstl on September 15, 2012, 04:05:36 PM
Hi, I tried to PM Jon directly, but, apparently cannot, so I'll pose the question to the community instead.  I just picked up a 5400 mah DVD battery from a local taper (thanks Roger) to power my Littlebox via a Din3 cable Ted made.  The Littlebox also has a four AA battery sled.  I was not going to use AA power, but am curious, if I were to plug in the batteries along with the DVD battery, would there be potential for overload / damage?  Is there also potential for redundant power?  If so, what source would take precedence?

No danger of overload or anything.

With other equipment, most commonly the external source provides the power until it is depleted and then the internal batteries take over.

Jon doesn't do PM's. To e-mail him your question, find a post by Jon Stoppable and click on the little envelope below his trade count.

I just run mine of DVD batteries!!  One DVD battery should get you at least 20 hours so unless you are at a festival I don't see a need to run internals.

I do the exact opposite and run Internals 100% of the time :) I run 2300mah Energizer AA's and they last a LONG TIME. I change them out after around 8 hours at festies :)

I have the biggerbox, with internal Lithium Batteries, and an external DVD battery for festivals...The thing will run for so long. This year I ran it at Mountain Jam. Recorded 14 hours of music each day, and the DVD battery only went down by one light...The internals were not touched at all.

Damn that's a pretty good battery life. My 1st LB back in early 2011 had a DIN3 external power jack but I NEVER used it. So my newest KCY/XLR LB does NOT have a DIN3 external power jack. So I can ONLY power it via AA batteries. Which is fine by me! Since I have a SHITLOAD of rechargeable Energizer 2300mah NIMH AAs :)

Yeah, I just rocked out the DVD battery and there were no power concerns whatsoever.  Thanks everyone for the input.

Let me clarify. It only went down one light each day not both days combined...But still its incredible.

I also own a littlebox with a din power input, though I've been using it with 4 1.5v  AA till now.

In order to add an external battery from the din input, I wonder what the correct voltage must be for the littlebox.  I think is something  "from  X  to Y " but I don't remember.
I also don't know what type of batteries and charger exist ( I know nothing about "DVD batteries" I've read of here).
thanks a lot for your answers

This is the one I have, I got is used from a local taper.  They sometimes, though rarely, show up in the Yard Sale.

You might want to post an ISO in the Yard Sale, or there are a bunch of batteries out on the market these days.

A lot of people picked this one up, though this might be overkill for the Littlebox.
