Title: PSP-3> PCM-10 question
Post by: airbladder on June 07, 2011, 08:44:15 PM
What is the best way to go from a PSP-3 to M10?
PSP-3> XLR to mini> M10 or
PSP-3> mini (out headphone jack)> M10

My guess is that is's better to use the xlr out, any info on this?
Thanks,
Ed

I can't say this is the definitive answer (or that it even applies to the PSP-3), but it sounds reasonable to me.

I also feel it's easier to make the perfect 1/8" to 1/8" cable. Something in the 6-8" range is all that is needed and can easily be secured with creative use of velcro. You're gonna need a well thought out xlr > 1/8" cable with proper xlr exist positions to keep it from kinking.

On the PSP-3 they replaced the 1/8" out with an 1/8" headphone out.

I ran off this headphone out once (only ran the 3 that one time) but looking back I'd probably gone with the XLRs

Hey Ed.  Send me your PSP-3 and I'll give you an answer oh in a year or two.

PSP-3 is a very underrated preamp.  For the mics we use, it seemed to sound as good or better than any other preamp we ran through (yes, even better than the PSP-2)

Kinda strange, but kinda cool too.

I am not getting out very much these days.  Ran the PSP-3> M10 out of the headphone jack and it worked just find.  I put the m10 at 6; had to keep the gain and headphone volume very low.  When my xlr> mini cable shows up I will try that out.

What is the deal with the PSP-3 red "over" lights?  When does the pre overload?  Is it like the V2, you want them flashing red just not red all the time?  Again, any info would be great.

Try running cmc641xt>PSP-2 and you will eat those words  ;D

i run my psp-3 units with both cable configurations.never really heard a big difference in final results. i like using xlr to mini when i stealth because i know the cables will not pull out of either recorder or pre. when in the out doors at a show im using mini to mini. either way your ok.

mini > mini from the sax to the m10 is so easy and small and sweet, thats what i do when running the m10 instead of the 744t

Yeah, thats what I waas thinking. I just like the fact that the xlr>mini locks into the sax. But I just got my Darktrain mini>mini yesterday, so I have both now!
