phantom power supply>SBM1???
« on: November 19, 2007, 10:09:06 AM »
Asking for a friend as I do not own these. Is it better to use the rca's or 1/4 inputs on the SBM coming from the power supply? I'm guessing since he has no pre that he still needs to go 1/4 inch in.

You can run line in through the RCAs if the output from the phantom power is very hot, usually because the mics are hot such as AKG 480s. Otherwise, he can use a XLR to 1/4" unbalanced cable into the mic inputs on the SBM, but unless it's an Oade pre-amp modded one, it may not be the best sound.
AKG C460B w/CK61/CK63>Luminous Monarch XLRs>SD MP-1(x2)>Luminous Monarch XLRs>PMD661(Oade WMOD)

Beyer M201>Luminous Monarch XLRs>PMD561 (Oade CMOD)

I used to run ADK a51tl's> Deneke PS2 power supply (mod w/ RCA outs)> Oade SBM1 via RCA's.  Great sounding, very simple rig.
