2.2k or 4.7k low sens Mod
« on: May 15, 2008, 09:03:07 PM »
I am trying to do one of those 2.2k or 4.7k high spl mods on my hlsc's, would it matter if i used a 1/8watt or 1/4watt(Rat shack has the 1/4) metal film resistor? And what would the difference be between the 2.2 and 4.7, i saw somewhere that the 4.7 reduces sensitivity 12db.

Hi Darktrain,

Did you figure out whether using a 1/4W Metal Film resistor in the Church 4.7 MOD instead of the recommended 1/8W MFR made a difference to your final results?

I have performed this mod in a Dual Mini-XLR > 1/8" adapter cable, however could only find a 1/2W 4.7K MFR. I have yet to test it out (and wont be able to for a couple of weeks)

Cheers,
Matt

Wattage rating shouldn't effect the sound.  All it amounts to is that the resister has the capacity for more current, which you don't need.

Primary issue is probably just size... bigger ones take more room.

I should not post this but I will. I am sure some of the people that have been selling my mod ( and making a profit ) will profit from this info.

2.4K Is for AT mics or My mics or the Senn mics you have when you want to directly power it with a R09HR OR R09.

4.7k is for higher bias voltages above 4.8 volts.

Only use metal film or small SMD chip resistors size 1208 are perfect. Or 1/8th watt I have lots of both so if you need some send me $3.00 for postage and I will send you a pair.
