windscreens for schoeps mk4v's
« on: March 16, 2010, 09:55:37 AM »
So, I am expencting some 4v's in the next week or so ;D, and i need indoor & outdoor windscreen suggestions. Right now i use the B1 for my mk4's & mk41's when indoors for dust/smoke etc.  Outdoors i have the B5D which i know i cannot run with the vertical setup.  I am thinking the B1 may still work for indoors, but outdoors is my concern...anyway, any suggestions is greatly appreciated.  What about non-schoeps windscreens??

thanks
adam

Cool, I thought I was the only one using B1s.  For outdoors, I would consider the big ass Shures (A81WS) which are long enough that they should cover the 4Vs pretty well (they tend to be a bit longer than the 4s) and they are great for windy conditions.

Dead rats from windcutters [http://thewindcutter.com/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1] over a B5?  Anyone have experience running this outdoors?  Good meeting you Adam in Madison.

If memory serves, it's the B5D that one shouldn't use with the MKxV series mics since the plastic cage/basket interferes with the pattern.  But the plain foam B5, without the basket - and any other foam windscreen like the Shure A81WS and DPa UA0896 - should work just fine.

FWIW, when I ran Schoeps MKx, I always liked the B5 or DPA UA0896 for indoor and the Shure A81WS for outdoor.

Cue Mr. Willet to chime in on the Rycote options...  :)

Big fan of the B1s here as well. Adam, the A81s work great with the schoeps caps, but yeah they are pretty big. I used them last year at the Gorge for phish and they did the trick.

Other than the basket issue mentioned above, you're fine using whatever windscreens you like. At least that's what I've found thus far. I haven't had the 4v's very long. (I use the teardrop Schoeps, the DPA and the big Shure.)

I have the dpa's and the big ass shure's.  I've been parting with a lot of my current gear.  Let me know if you're interested in these, they were going to go to the yard in the future anyhow...

Yep, they are big but I used them with MK4/KC5 actives (on a Kwonbar) and they fit fine (you can push them on a bit more than expected).  They also work with my CCM4/kwonbar setup.  With a MK4V active setup it'll work even better since it is a little bit longer.

Windcutter makes great products. For the price, they can't be beat.
