Superlux SMK-H8K

from their website:  "Each Matched Pair of cardioid mics come with two shockmounts, two windscreens, a stereo mount, spare suspension elements for the shock mounts, and two serial numbered factory Individual Frequency Response Charts, in a hard shell case for only $144.99 plus shipping."

What is the quality of these mics?  This just seems too good to be true. Totally new to this, so I'm on a budget.  So far, just have a digi-mod ua-5 and am in search of a iriver h120.  Going to start with SBD's of some friend's bluegrass band, archiving as much as possible.  mics are a little down the road.
thanks in advance
Paul

Not sure what to compare them to. Maybe Samson Co2. They could be the same microphone. I started with these and they are ok microphones. Just listen to the recordings and decide if you like them. Are they worth $140? Sure, but eventually everyone sells them to upgrade.

Agreed with JohnW above.  I think you should listen to some samples of the Superlux and Samson mics on the Archive.  Don't limit yourself to just one or two recordings per mic, listen to as many as you can or you may just by chance pick shows where the mics were set up in a lousy spot or a great spot.  Then listen to a few Studio Projects C4 recordings and a few Avantone CK-1 recordings, and see if you think they might be worth the price difference.

Of course, if you do, then you might want to start listening to some mics one step above those...get out while you still can!
