I don't know the polarity of the R44, but I do know that if you need to reverse the polarity on a Tekkeon battery, you can force the plug adapter in the "wrong" way.

I seem to remember reading that the polarity is reversed on all of the Edirol products.  It's no problem though...as opposed to products such as my Mini-MP, the Edirol products also have a circuit that just prevents anything from happening if you apply reverse polarity...it just does nothing and then when you get the polarity right, it powers up.

Having said this, I'd do by best to try and get the polarity on the battery right before plugging it in.  IOW, check first and don't necessarily just use the 'plug it in' test as your test for verifying polarity.

R4 has two 20 db pads (mic/line) that are linked for chans 1+2 and 3+4, where the R44 is variable on each channel independently and in a multitude of 6 db step increments (much more versatile). Also phantom is linked 1+2 and 3+4 on the R4, where phantom is independently switchable on each of the 4 chans on the R44.
