Sonosax MINIR82 and MINIR2
« on: March 22, 2005, 09:17:25 AM »
Not much new news on the MINIR82.....BUT!.... I didn't know there was a MINIR2 ("affordable robust, compact and easy to use recorder"). I wodner how much cheaper that one will be.

March 21.  2005 (http://www.sonosax.ch/SONOSAX-NAB-AES-05.htm)

SONOSAX MINIR82  a miniature 2 to 8 tracks Hard Disk and CompactFlash Card recorder that fits in a pocket ! Despite its reduced size -  only120 x 80 x 28 mm (4.75” x 3.15” x 1.1”) for a weight of approx. 450 gr (1/2 pound) with 4x AA batteries, the MINIR82  will fullfill all the different requirements commonly found in mobile recording.

With Recording capabilities from 44,1kHz up to 192 kHz at 24bits, it provides with 2x microphone pre-amp with Limiter and LF Cut, 2x Line inputs at fixed level, 8x AES/EBU Digital Inputs and Full Time Code functionalities including HDTV format !  Its intuitive menu allows users to freely configurate tracks and media assignement.

SONOSAX MINIR2  build in the same housing and based on the same technology as the MINIR82. This 2 tracks CompactFlash Card recorder is designed to offer journalists and reporters an affordable robust, compact and easy to use recorder thank's to its advanced Automatic Gain Controller. Numerous factory presets will help users to rapidly and easily sets the 2 microphone pre-amps according to microphone type and recording environnement.

isn't that for the 82 tho?  i don't really need 8 inputs.  i'm hoping the r2 is the affordable one.  and i'd say around $1000-$1500 would be affordable for what they're offering.

they do say affordable in their description.  seriously, i'd say around the cost of the 722 would still be affordable, based on what this can do and what the mic preamps are like.

Seriously looking into losing my DAP1 & going w/the new SAX 2 channel, or the Marantz pmd 671 or the M-Audio in the fal.

Does anyone have an idea if any of them will be worth using their pre or would I be better off using an external (MP2, V2, Aerco, etc.) and just using the AD and CF recorder?

Thanks for the help.

And people thought I paid a hefty price for the Deva IV... 6K, only 2 analog inputs, no hard drive... thanks but no thanks. I don't think this is going to be the home run they are hoping for.

I don't think that's right. It looks like they are all 8 channel devices (MINIR82), you just have the option of setting them up as 2 to 8 channel devices. However, this is really a marketing ploy because you're still limited to only two analog inputs. The rest of the channels come from the AES inputs, so you'll need a nice Cooper or Sonosax mixer (there's another 6-8K)....

I read the $6000 as the 8 channel version...in the second paragraph down it says the 2 channel version, more details will be released in september

I don't think that's right. It looks like they are all 8 channel devices (MINIR82), you just have the option of setting them up as 2 to 8 channel devices. However, this is really a marketing ploy because you're still limited to only two analog inputs. The rest of the channels come from the AES inputs, so you'll need a nice Cooper or Sonosax mixer (there's another 6-8K)....

or, you could run a bunch of V3s and Mini-Mes in front of it.  :P

They're also making a MINIR2 that will be just 2 channels.  Details for that are coming in Sept.

Sorry, I misread your post. I thought you meant you thought the 6K was for the 2 channel version.

I wouldn't hold your breath for the 2 channel to come much under 2K though. Sonosax has some nice gear out there, but they have always been on the high end of the pricing scheme.

INPUTS

Two balanced Mic/Line Input using high end mic preamp technology on 7 pin miniature connectors.

Got this fron Sonosax. What is a 7 pin connector? Can I get cables made for XLR to 7 pin connectors?

My guess is they'll supply the cable that will allow you to go from XLR to the 7 pin connector. I think hirose makes a 7 pin connector, and since these seem to be the rage on any gear aimed at hollyweird, this may be what they use. But they'll probably either ship it with the unit (one would think this is the route they will go), or at least offer it as an option.

Sonosax makes pretty good pre-amps, so I'm thinking it should an all-in-one solution.. I'm not even sure the 2 channel version has digital in, so it better be an all-in-one :)

$3k ??  wtf? ???

The MT oughta make some bucks out of here is right!

The MINIR2 should be available in august 2005 for ~ 2500 euros.
No idea of the MINIR82 price but it should be out in june 2005.

The MINIR82 is 8 channels and 6,000 dollars... minir2 is about 3400 bucks. from these prices..

all depends, if this box has a quality pre built into it similar to ths sax pre and a reasonable limiter, this could be competition to the 722...especially in stealthing situations

It's got a remote which the maudio and the r1 don't have. As long as you can view levels on it, that's a huge feature for stealthing.

Why?
If you have to adjust some part is already clipping or at least not so well recorded. If this happens during a show this is no good.

because volume goes up throughout shows in a lot of cases...this allows you to react rather than be blind because you have the recorder running in your pocket/fanny pack and no idea it is clipping...most stealthers know how to set their gear so that they are bumping zero's then to keep an eye on it and keep levels in check....
