Mac 24 bit workflow?
« on: May 10, 2006, 09:08:24 PM »
Hi Mac users,

After over 21 years, I am no longer a taper as I have just entered the solid state 24 bit realm. My 16 bit workflow was:

DAT > Mac (record into Peak)
Lay out tracks (markers > regions)
Process, EQ if needed
Save as Jam image, burn CD's in Jam.

With 24 bit, do I ever want to do anything to the original 24 bit file, and save over it (e.g. lay out tracks?)
What is the best order to do stuff (e.g. Change bit depth (24>16), convert 48 > 44.1, lay out tracks, processing)?
How does the pow-r dither work in Peak? Is it better than just saving the file as is, and using the dialog box to select 16 bit?

Lastly, I have Toast 7. Can I just take the .wav file from the CF card, drag it into Toast, and burn a DVD? Will this play in most DVD players?
I can only burn DVD-R media. Does that matter?
How can I have tracks in a 24 bit file that a DVD player would recognize like any CD player conventionally would at 16 bit?

thanks for all the help folks!      :D
