Title: What are you Mac guys using?
Post by: DavidPuddy on June 11, 2019, 01:59:08 PM
The "wife" just bought us an iMac and I'm a little lost when it comes to workflow. I use these programs for my windows machine (work computer): Audacity, CD Wave, Foobar, etc.

I have downloaded Audacity and Foobar but can't get the Live Show Tagger to show up. I ended up using the regular Foobar tagging but it took quite a while. I'm sure there is a better program for this.

I'm thinking about trying out Adobe Audition. Thoughts?

Sound Studio (tracking, normalize, etc), Reaper (multi-track), xAct (FLAC), Sound Forge occasionally

I tried Audition but it didnt seem worth the cost.

Sound Studio for most editing, Audacity for mixing down from multitrack to stereo. Tag for tags, xAct for fingerprints, Max for translating file formats. AudioHijack for recording audio streams, phone calls, you name it.

Reaper for editing and tracking. XLD for tagging and converting to just about any file type.

And I forgot about Rogue Amoeba's Airfoil, which may be my favorite app ever. (Sends audio from any app to any remote speaker on your network.)

Personally I’m a logic guy, but Reaper works great too.

Audacity for creating label tracks, label2cue java script app to convert that text file to a cue, then XLD to load the cue and chop up the set. xACT for dealing with the occasional shn files I come across, and to join sets that have split wav files.

Cog for FLAC playback: http://cogx.org/nightly_builds/cog-r2051.tbz
Adobe CS5.5 for Edits/transfers
CDWAVE (in Parallels with windows 10) - I still think this is the best way to quickly track out shows and only reason I have a windows boot on my mac.
xACT for tagging/encoding/decoding to FLAC http://xact.scottcbrown.org/

- Adobe Audition for editing.
- Sound Studio for tracking. It is the closest thing to CDWav I have found for Mac. Super easy to use. Just like CDWav you just point and click to drop the track mark in. You can also do editing with it, but since I have Audition I don't really use that feature.
- xACT for tagging and encoding.
