Neoros HD 1st gen. and 2nd gen difference?
« on: June 29, 2004, 07:15:09 PM »
does anyone know what the difference that has been done to the 2 models?
hopefully the 2nd gen now has digi-in.

one model is grey which i think is first, and the 2nd gen is black.  they say digital audio recrder, but from what im hearing here it records in analog and is then converted internally to digital. is that bad or good?

can i run a MIC2496 portable a/d converter from core sounds to it? between the mics and the neuros?

can i up the analog recording> home a/d converter> my pc? what kind of qauility loss are we looking at here?

these neuros look quite nice.

the 2nd generation, or all black models have 256MB of Flash memory, up from the 64 or 128 depending on how it was bought.  No digi-in

it takes an analog signal and converts it to digital internally

no, the mic2496 only has digi-outs and the Neuros does not have a digi-in

no need.  You can directly transfer the data from the Neuros to a PC/Mac with a USB2.0 cable.  No quality loss.

yeah, a little thick, but it still fits in my pocket, even with the extra battery, and it's built well.

Theoretically, yes.  But the Neuros/JB3/portable DAT recorders don't make analog recordings, only digital recordings, so the question is moot.

in another thread it said that the neuros didnt have digital in, that it converts the analog recording to digital internally. neuro doesnt have optical in to plug in a a/d converter does it?

neuros doesnt have optical in like the jb3 does.

i want the neuro but no optical in makes me steer from it.

an adc coverts an analog signal to a digital one.  Since the Neuros has an internal ADC, it both converts the signal to digital AND records that digital signal.

If you want to later add on something like an AD-20 or mic2496 or UA-5 or V3 or miniMe or GMIC-20, then JB3 is probably the way to go.  ANy other relevant specs are spelled out in many previous posts in the other thread.

like i mentioned in the other thread, finding an "analog v. digital" faq on the web somewhere would probably be a good idea, arawak.
also consider the size and shape of each unit.
