BMP2+ Mod UA-5 cable to run on a DVD Battery
« on: December 02, 2007, 05:36:40 PM »
I have a Busman MOD UA-5 and a universal DVD battery, but I don't have a cable to connect the two.  Does anyone know where I can get a cable for this or does anyone know who could make a cable for me?  My source is:  Peluso CEMC-6 > BMP2+ UA-5 > MT 2496.  Can't do any show recordings until I can power my UA-5 in the Field.  Thanks for any insight you all may be able to give me.  ldseeya :) :)

radioshack...

UA-5 tip is "m" (i think)

and the battery tip is a "C" (i think)

buy one of those cables ...reverse the polarity of the UA-5 tip and your done.

should cost about 5 bucks and take about 5 minutes.
I actually work for a living with music, instead of you jerk offs who wish they did.

bwaaaahahahahahaha.... that is awesome!

What do you mean by "reverse the polarity"?

What do you mean by "reverse the polarity"?

That means you want the tip on the plug to be negative, seems like most other gear is tip positive. With the radio shack connectors it's as easy as flipping the plug 180. The ua5 is pretty friendly if it's wrong though..as it just won't power on, just try it the other way. Not all gear is that way though and it may end up frying something if you give it the wrong polarity, just something to keep in mind

I just did this at radio shack and it costs about 22 bucks actually.  The UA-5 side is "M" and the battery size is "B".

Don't be scared at all.  YOU WON'T FRY YOUR UA-5 OR YOUR BATTERY if the polarity isn't right on your cable.  The UA-5 just won't come on.  I've done this before (had the tip in backwards) and nothing happened to my UA-5.

What you want to do is to dedicate this cable to ONLY your UA-5.  If you come along later and say another electronic component also uses 9V and happens to have the same tip.  Say you decide to try the new componet with the 9V battery...if you don't remember to swap the polarity of the tip, you could fuck up the other component.

Course the flip side of this is that I've done this and a week later I come back and hook up my UA-5 before a show and then it won't power on.  So after going through mental conniptions, banging my head, mental vocalizations (muttering every cuss word in the language), and cold sweats, because I fear the worst that my UA-5 is forever dead, I realize that I hadn't returned the tip back to the right polarity.

So the solution is to only use the cable with the UA-5 and never ever EVER use it with anything else.

I ordered different size tips that had lengths of wire attached. For the UA-5 I tried wiring them black to black and black w/white stripe to black w/white stripe. Of course the unit did not power up, so I remembered someone mentioning the reverse polarity issue and switched up the connections so it was black w/white stripe to black and it worked.

Either make the RS one (M and B tips, reverse the polarity on one of them), or contact deadheaded (www.kindkables.com). He can make you a very nice one, complete with fuse.

If you go the Rat Shack route, here's a thread with step by step instruction to build the cable, with photos.  Most helpful:

Such a solid thread. I know it helped me when I first got my UA-5.
