I am currently runing adk 51tl>mp2>adc-20>d10 pro. I am considering selling the adc-20 and getting a stock ua-5 and doing a digital mod. Theres a couple of think I want input on
1. How does the stock preamp in ua-5 sound(verus the preamp mod)
2. How would the ua-5 sound as a a/d(mp2>ua5)
3. How would the ua5(no preamp mod) sound verues a mp2
-
I wish I could help more but I do know that the UA-5 is not bit-perfect with it's digital conversions, this was verified by Edirol.

I don't think he wants it for digital transfers to his pc, that is the only case where being bit perfect matters

1. No comparison, both preamp mods sound better than the stock.
2. A/D is suprisingly good, I ran v2> stock ua5 for a few shows and was quite pleased with the results. Having limited experience with the ADC20, I can't really say if it would be any better/worse.
3. UA5 stock sounds warm, a bit grainy, slightly rolled off extreme highs & lows, a little noisy at high gain. Overall a pretty laid back presentation, which I found colored but enjoyable. Much better to be warm/dark sounding than overly bright like some of the less expensive preamps.
I'm not sure if the stock ua5 would be an improvement over the mp2>adc20.

I run the Oade Digi-MOD only no warm or Presence. I wanted to check out how it sounded w/ the AKG 461's before I did anything to the unit
I have the KDTU 2003-12-05 Tuxedo Junction Danbury CT show available on Bit Torrent if you want to check it out.

Source: AKG 460'S (ck-1 Caps, DFC 20' from stage, X/Y)-> Blue Kiwi XLR's-> Edirol UA-5 (oade digi-MOD, 24Bit/48khz)-> Sony PCG-GRS700K (P4/1.8/1024)-> Sound Forge 6.0e

I ran ADK a51 LEs -> DYI digi ua-5 -> d7 for two nights at the past run of Phish shows. If you'd like to hear how that sounds and can FTP shoot me a PM for a login. :)

I will have a stock UA 5 for sale startinfg today.
-
how much for the stock ua5??
-
Since I will keep my mp2 I might run the ua-5 without the mp2 sometimes. Geting the ua-5 just gives my alot more options
-
Can I run this on 12 volts sla??? I know all about the rc battery pack but I already have 12 volt sla
-
yes...I uesd to run mine off a 12v SLA.....but I'd seriously reccomend ditching it for the RC battery pack. So much lighter/easier to deal with.
-
And with the RC packs it give you an excuse to buy an RC car...
We can all start racing rc cars in the parking lot after shows with our left over juice... :)

know of at least one person who "upgraded" to mp2 >adc-20 from a digi-modded (no pre-amp mod) ua5. So take that for what it's worth.
I definitely think the pre in the mp-2 is better than the stock ua-5, but then again I'm biased.

I am keeping the mp2. I wanted to use the ua-5 as AD. I would also consider using the ua-5 standalone if I am lazy
-
i have ran both the mp-2 and ua-5 (oade presence mod) and i prefer the ua-5 over the mp-2. just imo but i think you will be happier if u get either the warm or presence mod...instead of just the digi mod
-
Digi-mod cost about $200 if I DIY. Presence mod is $550. I would have to sell my mp2 to fund a preamp mod

To funny  +T
I run a stock digi mod UA-5, but after running Clayton's warm mod I may send my UA-5 back to Oade for a little addition. My only concern with the warm mod is running it at small bars and venues because all the recordings I've heard they turn out really heavy on the bass.
I'm wanting a GA brick and/or a V3 as well, so I don't know what the hell I'm going to do. It's hard to do all the things I want to do right now with X-mas presents and saving for a freakin' ring....
I do love the UA-5 and you can't beat the price I think.
-
i say go MP-2>SBM-1. That combo is amazing. Phat bass that owns your face. UA-5 has too much phluff. ;)
-
the ua5 does have too much phluff. im a former ua5 believer and have moved on.
