Title: Idk little GEM
Post by: 2manyrocks on February 07, 2016, 01:20:40 PM
There have been 3 favorable reviews of the idk Little Gem sdc.  It comes with an omni, card, and hyper card capsule for $49. http://www.iskproaudio.com/collections/microphones

They also have another SDC called the Pearl for $29.

Ordinarily, I wouldn't give them a second thought, but sort of want to get a hyper card mic to experiment with. I may try it as a video mic or try it in dome mic array just to see what happens.  Am I about to waste $49?

I messed up the name.  It's iSK.

In answer to my original question, the seller has a 30 day no questions asked return policy.

I've been looking for a 'bad weather' set of mics (since I'm chicken shit about running my stuff in even possibly bad weather these days...) and saw an ad for these on GS.com.  They look interesting.  The $29 Pearl, with a 25mm capsule, looks nice, too.   Here's the thread in GS.

Did you ever grab a pair?

I would love to hear a show recorded with these. The low price scares me away a little bit, but Church Audio mics prove that a $100 pair of mics can produce a quality recording. I'm also intrigued about the hyper caps.

Frequency Response: 30hz-18khz
Sensitivity: -38dB ± 3dB (0dB=1V/Pa at 1khz)
Output Impedance: 100 ± 30% (at 1khz)
Max Input SPL: 135dB (at 1kh ≤1%T.H.D.)
Power requirements: 9V-52V phantom Power

These are the specs from the website. Can anyone who knows more about that type of thing comment?

I had trouble screwing the interchangeable caps on the GEM, and the seller immediately refunded my money.  He has now started checking them before shipping.  I already have more mics than I need so I didn't replace the Gem.

I ended up keeping the Pearl for live choir use.  The choir director likes it.  It isn't shrill like most inexpensive condensors.  I was pleasantly surprised at the build quality.  We intend to buy more as needed.  We could have bought more expensive mics, but the Pearl is getting the job done.

The seller has a satisfaction guarantee.  He stood by what he sold me.

He has some other mics and accessories on his website like shock mounts that may also be of interest.

I bought a pair to have for spot work for my church. I recorded a short sample of my home piano (while it was getting tuned). PM me if anyone wants a link. I think they sound pretty good. To me, the omni has the best overall balance.
