iRiver 120/Rockbox -slight problem
« on: September 06, 2009, 03:30:09 AM »
Well I encountered my first problem at a show a couple of days ago. I hit record on the iRiver, and it stayed in pre-recording mode - didn't start actual recording. I had another rig rolling, so was only mildly ticked off. Anyway, I've since wiped the CF card/formatted it, etc, and put on the latest Rockbox. It seems it's not automatically entering the filename - if I hit record and scroll down, the filename entry is blank and it doesn't record, no matter how many time you press it. I discovered I have to press the power button and //R_Line_000x.wav appears and recording then starts. Anyone else come across this? I guess the button layout has changed in Rockbox, or something, for the record process?

It was working as normal the last time I used it in May (press record to get to the recording screen, press again to start), but I updated Rockbox a few weeks ago but didn't check things out. I'll know better next time  :o

very strange...

you're sure it's not a bad contact in the recording button?

That's the odd part, the first press takes me to the recording window where you can adjust the gain, etc, so the button is ok.

I've just this minute deleted the current version and put an old one from March back on, and it's behaving - first press record screen/pre-recording & 2nd press starts recording. I noticed on the first press the Filename entry is blank, but it fills it in on the 2nd press when recording starts. It's like the record & power buttons have switched places in the current version  ???

Just found this post with a similar issue:

Are you feeding the unit an optical signal? I got similar issues and discovered it was due to a faulty optical cable.
Check if the same thing happens when you go analog in, or record from the built in FM radio. That's how I eliminated the offending cable.

Going line-in. No source works - Internal mic, FM, line-in, etc, until I press the Power Button.  But no problem with an older version of Rockbox, record button works fine.

I'll have a look at this, maybe somebody touched the buttonmaps and created this issue. I admit that the version on my h308 which I use for recording is already several months old, my h380 is up to date but I don't use it for recording. So I might not have spotted this problem.

Bugger.. End of May there was a discussion about problems with keymaps because of duplicate functionality, and I was asked if there really needed to be two keys that start recording. I said no, and they went ahead and removed the REC key....

This will be less easy to fix since the usage of the REC button caused some issues on one of the ipod targets

Does everybody want REC to be used again, or is PLAY fine too?

 :o

I prefer the REC button, but if it's too much hassle to change I'll just stick to an older build  8)

Had a bit of talk about this yesterday, and it was agreed that that change was indeed silly, REC ought to start recording. Just need to think of a solution now and have a chat with the guy who caused this problem (as there may be issues I haven't thought of.

Changing a button might seem easy, and it is if you consider only one player. But as we're multi-platform, it is difficult to change stuff like this without breaking some functionality on another model.

In the mean time, any build before may 22 should be fine

Can anyone point me to a link where I can download a pre-May 22 build?  I just updated a week or two ago (urgh).  Thanks for any help.

I'm just checking my backup CDs/DVDs, and I can only seem to find zip files from May 2008. I have an unzipped build from March '09 which I was using. I'll check some more discs, I should at least have the March '09 zip file somewhere.... I hope!

Here's 2. The first is May 2008 and the 2nd is March 22, 2009. The only problem with the March '09 one is that the folder within the archive is called Rockbox instead of .Rockbox - Windows wouldn't let me put the . in. So if you have the iRiver\Rockbox folder open on your PC, click into the Rockbox folder in the archive and drag all the files/folders over. Double check all the config settings (input/gain/AGC-safety clip, etc) as this archive will have my settings stored.

Hi all....

I'm looking into fixing this, and an easy way would be to put recording and pause on the REC button and splitting on the PLAY button.

Would that be an acceptable solution?

That would be ok for me, just have to be careful I don't accidentally press it a 2nd time and go into pause by mistake   ;D

Alright... I just committed a change that should fix the problem.

PLAY will now only pause/resume
REC will start recording and split when already recording.

Sorry for the mess, I was a bit away from the project for some time and look what they do behind your back ;)

Had a little play, no issues. Will run it recording a 3hr radio show this weekend, and also at a gig on Monday.
Thanks  :yahoo:

It seems my fix wasn't so good as it broke support for the Archos players. So I have now reverted the key behavior to that of may, so it should now behave as it has always done in the past.
