Hello All,

Got one earlier this month.  Nice machine, sounds good.  Till now, pretty much used a couple Echo Laylas or a JB3 for most a/d conversion.

I do think the machine may need more power than what lappies (G4 Al Powerbook) can safely provide.  The specs say it chows along at 12W (i.e. 1 amp at 12 VDC) which really gets the laptop warm when using FW bus power.  Things are running noticeably cooler now that the Traveler is plugged into a walwart though a powered FW hub may also work for anything beyond say about 20 minutes (still finding that limit).  Packing along a small fan works but seems a bit goofy.

The Traveler may be perhaps just a bit to much machine for portable work.  Semi-mobile (?) work may be okay.  Still a nice unit...

Gadzooks...  Been so busy learning the new software that I didn't even notice that thread!!!   

Last night, I lugged the lappy, Traveler, and a long RCA connector to a home to try auditioning some mixes straight into their home stereo.  Didn't get much mix work done but was able to determine they had lousy speakers to check mixes with!   FWIW, aside from being a nice funcational unit, the Traveler does make for interesting conversation sitting on other people's coffee tables.  I've a hunch we'll be invited to a few more outings in the days ahead...

I don't have a mac so I only have a 4-pin firewire interface with no power.  I am running a homebrew 10.8V 6.8Ah Li-ion battery pack with a 4-pin XLR. 

On it's maiden voyage I ran my traveler for a two set blues band.  I ran the two 84 minute sets powering my mics @ 24/96. 

On my second outing I ran over four hours.   I was running two analog channels from the SBD and an AES/EBU in from the V3.  I ran no phantom this time.  It might not run as long powering it's four mic channels, but it didn't even get warm when I added another six misc board feeds for the encore.

The battery input is flexible, 9-24VDC.  I think we will find that it is harder to power the laptop for a compete show than the traveler....

What were you using for software? I ask, because though I now have a PowerBook, I'll probably loan the MOTU to friends who use Windows laptops.

BTW, with regards to the Mac & the MOTU: my first trials with setup went smooth as silk. Got the drivers & software loaded no sweat (though that Audiodesk is a bit cumbersome...ah, well, this is the month for new toys, so why not some software as well?!). Was able to test running 4 mics in on phantom and a line in from a 'P1; and it work great the first time. No glitches, no locks, no wonky driver errors. Color me happy...

First time out, WL.  Second time, Son*r.  Veg*s captures well too.  Everything I've tried sees it.  Strange how it only sees a number of inputs at times.  Maybe it has an active input detection....
