Apple Powerbook G4
« on: July 16, 2005, 02:32:58 PM »
I will be borrowing one thse little guys (the 12" version) for a week on the road.  I primarily will be using it to transfer recordings each night from the JB3 (via firewire) back at the hotel for all of the following:

-  inserting fades at beginning/end of sets

-  tracking the shows out

-  creating text files

-  compressing in FLAC

-  running SHNtool

-  creating a torrent file

-  seeding the torrent

I know I need to download an ipod-esqe program from Apple to allow the JB3 to communicate with the Powerbook, and I have that link.

Having never used an Apple, but being extremely comfortable doing all of the above on a PC, what are my options?  What programs will I need to download and install to to this on an Apple?

Thanks in advance,

Wade

For JB3>Powerbook, grab XNJB (http://www.wentnet.com/projects/xnjb/) - unfortunately it only works over USB, not Firewire. Don't think there's a way of doing it via Firewire.

For text files, FLAC and shntool, xACT is what you want - hit up xact.fellowtraveler.org for that.

For creating/seeding a torrent, I use the default BitTorrent client from BitTorrent.com - there's also Tomato Torrent at http://sarwat.net/bittorrent/ but I like the regular client better.

As for fades/track splits, you'll get a bunch of answers, but I use Sound Studio from felttip.com - 15 free uses, only $40 to buy, and nothing fancy or difficult to learn about it.
Unofficial Blues Traveler archivist - glad to work on any BT or related recordings
archive.org admin - happy to upload tracked material to the LMA
