Primo em21 (Nakamichi cardioid) Source
« on: February 27, 2021, 06:31:01 PM »
Hello kind people of TS. Thanks for accepting my membership.

I have a couple of mics with busted EM21 capsules, the capsule used in cardioids for Nak cm100, cm300. I was wondering if anyone would share knowledge about what inexpensive models could have these. I have access to some Audio technica spares, so if you know which models used em21 it would be nice to know.

I know there were some inexpensive JVC, Tascam, Crown, Teac, AT, etc. Does anyone know which models?

I'm not 100% sure of what you're asking, but I can say that the following mic bodies listed below can use the same CP1 (cardioid), CP2, CP3 and CP4 capsules that were made for the Nakamichi CM100 and CM300 series mics.

- Tascam PE-120 mic
- Teac ME-80 and ME-120 mic
- JVC M-510 mic
- Primo (unknown model)

And there's probably a few more, but these are all mics I own or have owned.

Thanks for the reply. That's what i meant. I am located in Norway, most of those are tricky to source in Europe. I was hoping someone is aware of some hidden gems that use these capsules, as they were used in a lot of mics back in the day. I feel also it's a bummer to buy a nice mic as those you mentioned just to get to the capsule. I guess i'll have to.

AT3528 capsule seems to be close, i'm just not sure about that one.

Keep an eye on Reverb as well. I saw quite a few on there recently. If you contact them most people will work with you on shipping. I always mark my Reverb auctions as ship to US only, but have had some where an international buyer contacted me wanting the item. Once we figure out shipping costs we could do the deal.  In my experience buying and selling quite a bit of gear on there, everyone is ready to make a deal. I usually list my sales with a little higher list on there, knowing someone is going to make an offer and I will sell for lower than asking.

This post on gearslutz seems to suggest they may be available in bulk:

I’d be down for some.
