UA-5 pmod have SCMS problems?

Right now I have a beginner rig:

record:

AT831 > SP Batt Box > Sharp MT-99

convert:

Sony MXD-D400 > optical > Terratec EWX 2496 > Cool Edit Pro

I have gotten the upgrade bug and I wanna start with the UA-5 pmod because I also need to do some studio applications and the UA-5 is perfect for what I need.  So I want my live recording rig to look like this:

AT831(possibly replace) > UA-5 > Sharp MT-99(possibly replace)

First, let me ask what proper replacements for the AT831's are available?  I have say a $300 budget for mics, I will use them a lot for live matrixes with the UA-5 and board feed.  Maybe AKG C1000's?  I want something that will work with the UA-5, so if the AT831's will work then I will stick with them.

Second, if I record a live matrix with the UA-5 (my mics + sbd feed) will I be able to go optical out of UA-5 > optical in of Sharp MT-99 and not have SCMS problems when I try to transfer it to my computer with the Sony MXD-D400 > Terratec?  Do I need a SCMS stripper?

man, sorry for the length but I have many things to consider.  I appreciate any help anyone can provide.  thanks!

i dont believe you will need an scms stripper since its not considered consumer grade...

I know in the Sony MXD-D400 manual it supports (or it has) SCMS. So you really think it will work?  that's good news...  :)

unless I'm mistaken, wouldn't SCMS be introduced during your transfer from Sony MXD-D400 > Terratec. That being said...is the terratec a soundcard? I didn't think most soundcards kept SCMS code in a transfer anyway.

with the M-Audio Audiophile 2496, you enable/disable the SCMS via a check-box...

generally on the pro cards, like the audiophile you can disable scms

For $300 you can pick up a pair of new AKG c391b's on ebay, or here used.....
