Not sure about any practical uses, but Im pretty sure it will suck the JB3's battery down

sucks up battery life, plus if you're running in a section with 10 other jb3s, and the other guys didn't have the remote feature turned off, you could end up pausing one of theirs!

Depends on which remote... The wired remote doesn't seem to affect battery life much but they are kinda fragile... I mod'd mine to hopefully keep it working longer (basically used a couple of springs from bic pens round the ends as strain reliefs, got pics somewhere...)

I'd be interested in those pics. ;)

Can you set it to record just by using the remote?

So you can play and pause with the remote?  And this Dell DJ remote works on it too?   What other features does the remote have?   It may be worth 20 bucks to me if I can mount all my shit in a bag and be protected away and be able to start/stop it with a remote outside.

Only prob I see with the dell remote is that you can't see what you did.  I.E. you might have hit the button twice and started and stopped it again.  At least with the Creative one it tells you that it is recording or not.

$49 but gives you FM radio

Thanks for the pictures and info.   Yeah, I'd probably at least need  it to tell me if it was currently recording or paused....otherwise I'd be too paranoid about it and not knowing ;p

Levels no big deal for me since I be building some new led ones soon :)

Given a remote, can you stop/start/pause the JB3 while you have the physical player locked?

yes.. the remote can control the jb3 when the physical player is locked. however, there is also a lock switch on the jb3 remote.

Does the remote display the status of the JB3 (recording/paused/etc.?).  I would think once it's set to record, you could start/pause/start new track with only the remote?  True?
