It is not a competition, just a confession.
OK, I won't list my history, I can't even remember.
But I did look over at my bookshelf the other night and notice six different baseball caps, each one with a different set of mics lovingly attached (with black hot melt glue). Here they are:
- Sennheiser MKE2 (omni)
- Sennheiser KE4-211-2 (omni)
- Sennheiser MKE40 (lav clips, not glue) (cardioid)
- DPA 4060
- Knowles Acoustics BT1759 (omni)
- Nevaton MKE40 (omni)
Last night I tried out four of these to compare, my search for the "perfect omni" mic. It goes like this: Put hat on, plug mics into recorder (minidisc, mic in, plug in power, PCM recording), drink some beer, speak to identify mics, come upstairs, announce mics to wife, listen for response, announce mics to dog, enter bathroom, wash hands, flush toilet, enter kitchen, get glass from cupboard, pause in front of cookoo clock, try a "rain stick" in front of mics, go to garage, get another beer, return to house, return to basement, finish beer. Repeat.
Oh yeah, I think I have at least one set of glasses with mics crazy glued on the sides, and a couple of sets of headphones with AT853 series mics on them.
