I do have to pimp www.tapewarehouse.com for getting blank 1GB discs.  They sell them for $4.67 where everyone else in the free world sells them for $6.00+.  I buy stuff from these cats all the time and they are top notch!

heres some wisdom:
1. do not buy an md recorder that does not have an illuminated display.( i bought a rh910 and a month later ended up buying a mz-m100,it is an absolute neccesity)
2.do not but a sony mic.you can get decent mics through www.soundprofessionals that wont break the bank.(cmc series are very good for the money)
3.you are probably going to need a battery box,do not get one that does'nt have a bass roll off feature.(if you tape a show and clip the recording due to too much bass, well... you're fucked.)
4. as said earlier, get 1 gb discs through tapewarehouse, they are the absolute cheapest.

good luck bro

Take a look a minidisc-canada.com.  They sometimes have good deals on blanks and closeout models.

i'm not sure where you live, but "GUITAR CENTER" usually carries a few models.i went there to upgrade from my rh910,planning on getting the rh10(to get the backlight),they didnt have that model,so the salesman ended up selling me a brand new mz-m100 for $250.00 out the door.

The cheapest Hi-MD model I've seen is the MZ-NH700.  It's a discontinued model , but NEW and in the unopened original box.  New MZ-NH700s appear regularly appears on eBay.  Auctions end with typical winning bids  around $120, shipping included.

So far as I can tell, the preamp and A/D circuit in the NH700 is the same as in all other Hi-MD machines.  Sony certainly doesn't claim that its more expensive models sound any different.

Yep. That is an excellent buy.  This unit (like the '800) has mic, line (and optical) inputs, and runs of a single AA battery!  Perfect general purpose machine, or a backup if you need a board patch, etc.  I've seen it for around $150USD on minidisc-canada.com on closeout, but their stock varies.  It is not there now.
