Joining team AKG!
« on: March 18, 2004, 03:46:14 PM »
Picked up a set of 460's w/ck61's for cheap on ebay (if the counter was correct, I was the 2nd person to the auction!).

can't wait... been wanting these or 480's for about a year now! haah.

I've got my at4051a's in the yard sale if anyone is interested.. :) need to sell them ASAP!

As you can imagine, this brightened my day considerably!

So, I do have a question re the 460's to those who run them or 480's... do you normally run them flat (ie no bass roll off ) ?

Also, haven't done a lot of looking yet on it, but what are the main differences between the 460/480 bodies ? Just quieter or ?

From what I've read the 480's are smoother in the highs.  I'm sure someone with actual experience will be able to tell you :).  Are these the ones that were going for $400 each BIN?  I've been thinking of getting those C1000's for $250/pair just to have.

and to answer your question, i run my 480s with the 63 hypers and I run them flat (no roll off).  If for some ungodly reason i need to roll off bass, i do it on the v2.  Hope that helps!

welcome to team akg....i recently upgrade to the 460's from the 391's. the 391's were great for me, and i am not disappointed by the 460's.

i run then ck61 & 63's flat. the good thing about these mics is that if and when you upgrade to the 480's, you can use the same caps.

i have some specs on the 460's that i got from the prior owner (3 specs pages) that i can email you if you like.

i am not sure what the difference is between the 460's and 480's...i think the 480's are transformerless. the 460's seem to be cooveted by orchestral tapers. jim williams at www.audioupgrades.com can modify them, and make them transformerless, and some say when that mod is done to the 460's that they are superior to the 480's...but i have no experience or comparison to back that up. search this and the OLD oade board for "460" and you will find a ton of material/discussion of this subject.

good luck, and have a grateful day  ;D

A live concert to me is exciting because of all the electricity that is generated in the crowd and on stage. It's my favorite part of the business, live concerts.
