Compare these two recorders
« on: May 11, 2012, 07:04:03 PM »
Here's an interesting gear comparison. Two different recorders...

These are two versions of the same source - my OTF matrix, coming from my mixer.

Each sample is about 2 and half minutes worth of a quieter, instrumental passage.

The 1/4 inch balanced outs from my mixer are going to a Behringer Ultramatch 2496 A/D @ 16/44 - to a bit bucket.
The other recorder is fed from the RCA outs of the mixer.

I keep the details secret for the moment.

2 samples - "sample1" and "sample2"

This will stream sample1 and sample 2 - and then repeat once.

mp3 (320) should do for this comparison, but I can post flacs if anyone really needs it.

Complete rig is: Avantone CK1 (omnis) on stage - spread about 8 feet > dbx386 tube preamp + SBD > Yamaha MG10/2 mixer

Just interested in general impressions of the sources - anything that might catch your ear.

Since I've had no takers here - I'll leave one hint - there is something about one that should  be obvious.

Also I made this streaming so you wont have to dl anything...

so we're essentially just comparing ADC stages, right?
"This is a common practice we have on the bus; debating facts that we could easily find through printed material. It's like, how far is it today? I think it's four hours, and someone else comes in at 11 hours, and well, then we'll... just... talk about it..." - Jeb Puryear

Runonce,

sample 2 sounds somehow distorted to me, especially the bass.
