Need help installing an M-Audio Audiophile 2496
« on: April 01, 2004, 04:23:05 PM »
just installed this, installed the drivers, etc. It seems to be working properly, but I can' get my computer to play any sounds, whether it be from my dat deck or a wave file on the hd. Nothing!

Everything is attached properly to the best of my knowledge. Speakers are hooked up and plugged in to the cpu like normal. When I open a file in Windows Media Player, I can watch the progress bar move across the screen, as if it were playing a file, but no sound comes out.

I'm running XP. What do I need to do to make my computer output sound?

are you trying to run sound out of the audiophile or your built in card?

well, I've got the audiophile set as the primary playback/recording device, but my speakers are plugged into the back of the cpu as normal.  Should I be plugging my speakers into the soundcard?  The speaker jack doesn't appear to fit in the inputs on the soundcard....

Will I have to plug my headphones into that as well?

here's what I did

I got a(n) rca splitter and then the y adapter mentioned above so that I can run my speakers and headphones, although it brings down the output quite a bit
