Any news on this?  Transfer times and battery life are my concerns with the QCOOL unit. Recording a 5-day festival is easy with DAT, but recording at 24-bit to CF, I might need something better than the QCOOL, maybe the PD70X.

That's a really neat device.  It doesn't come with a HD, though, I don't imagine.  I think I might get one of these at some point.

thats what im gonna get eventually, and yes they do come w/ HD's, they are just pricey and youre better off putting your own 80GB in or something :)

those are THE BOMB, at 16MB/Sec transfer speed, its the quickest out at the moment, and looks to be the most rugged/stable as well, but who knows, i havent touched one

After spending some more time online, I found the Digital Photography Review, Storage & Media forum. Lots of informative posts, and the HyperDrive HD80 is similar to the PD70X. I'll be doing a lot more reading before I'll make any recommendations to users here. Seems like there may be Mac compatibility problems, a big deal for me.

200 bucks for the 40 gig version sounds like a deal to me.  I would never use this thing to store recordings long-term... just need enough to get me through the show (for taping multiple sets).  Thanks for the link.
